Depending on your local climate you may have packed your water feature away for the Winter or left it out. Whichever option was best for you we wanted to give you our top tips for reviving it for Spring. Our advice will keep your water feature happy and healthy for years to come!
If you packed your water feature away for the Winter…
We would always advise that you clean your pump before packing it away for the Winter, but if you haven’t then now is a good time! To clean the pump during the year is to use a garden hose placed against the outlet of your fountain to 'back flush' clean water through the pump. If this fails to improve the flow a more complete cleaning should be undertaken, simply remove the cover at the outlet end of the pump then pull out the rotor. With warm soapy water clean out the housing and rotor, flush with clean water, (Note the bearing pin in the centre of the hole, be careful not to damage it when cleaning) replace the rotor onto the centre bearing pin and slide back into the slot, the rotor should turn easily with just a slight resistance from the magnets. Replace the end cover and that's it.
Then it’s just a case of following the installation instructions for the water feature, just follow the steps below…
- Tighten any visible screws.
- Place the water feature on a level surface.
- If you have a plastic sump (reservoir), we recommend digging a hole to bury the sump or you can decorate around to hide the plastic.
- Connect the hose from the water feature to the pump.
- Fill the water feature with water, ensuring that the pump is fully submerged.
- If solar powered, place the solar panel in the best position to get the best sunlight and refer to the specific solar panel instructions (our solar powered pump instructions can be found HERE).
- Finally, connect to the mains power supply ensuring that the plug is in a suitable weatherproof outdoor socket if not indoors (does not apply if solar powered).
If you left your water feature set up through Winter…
We suggest that you give your water feature a thorough service.
- Drain the water from your water feature and reservoir. Clean any leaves or dirt from the water feature. If you use Wave Sparkle it will get rid of any algae and thoroughly clean your water feature.
- Clean the pump as per the instructions above.
- All of our water features are UV treated, but as with any product that’s out in the elements it may show signs of wear. You can combat this by purchasing one of our covers from HERE or by painting it with exterior paint that can be bought from any DIY shop.
- Check the rubber hose and make sure it isn’t clogged and check the cables are all intact and haven’t been tampered with by garden pests.
- Then follow the installation instructions above, we recommend that if you live in hard water area you use collected rainwater or distilled water and add sterilising tablets to prevent algae in the future.
